Mary Ellen Joyce

Mary Ellen Joyce led the executive programs division of The Brookings Institution from 2000-2020, serving as Executive Director of Brookings Executive Education from 2009 to 2017 and Associate Dean from 2017 to 2020. Previously, she was a government relations representative for the American Petroleum Institute. She also served as chief of staff to former New Hampshire Governor John H. Sununu. 

 

Mary Ellen was appointed by President George Bush to the U.S. Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations (1989 to 1995). A former account executive with the firm Smith & Harroff, Inc., she managed the campaigns for Sununu and developed the field network for Arizona Senator John McCain’s 1982 race for the House of Representatives and 1986 contest for the United States Senate.

Mary Ellen also worked on the presidential campaign of former U.S. Senator Howard H. Baker and was on the legislative staff of former U.S. Senator Edward W. Brooke of Massachusetts. She received a BA in Political Science and History from Boston College and a Ph.D. in Business and Public Administration from the George Washington University. Mary Ellen is an elected Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration.
